Greetings! Welcome to the world of Takeoff Power.
This is an exciting day for me. I began my project of writing a memoir with a message about 10 years ago after the encouragement of my children and some grandchildren. My book, TAKEOFF POWER, is about to launch and be available to anyone who wants to read it and be challenged by its message. I have been pushing hard since April of this year to meet the publishing deadline of October. We will miss that deadline by only a few days.
The book is a true story, my true story. The byline after the title, TAKEOFF POWER, describes it as a “true story of community, faith, and flight.” My intent in writing the book has been to tell my story and to include the message that there is nothing that I have done in my life of any significance that could have been accomplished working only by myself—in aviation jargon, by flying solo. I have been supported by my family community, various Christian communities, neighborhood communities, and a vast array of professional communities. I value the constructive input and support they provided to my life.
I hope my story will be of interest to everyone, but more importantly, I hope the book challenges every reader to engage the world through a myriad of relationships that can be mutually beneficial. Individuals can bring good constructive input into a larger community, yes. But the community is of infinite value for the growth and personal, spiritual, and professional development for all who will take advantage of what it offers.
My commitment to this blog on my takeoffpower.com website is to write and post a challenging article at least every two weeks. My hope is that I will tell valuable stories with messages that enhance the value of community. I plan to share stories of historical figures who have made the world a better place either through commitment to their profession or to their God, perhaps both. I will also reserve the right to be an armchair philosopher who writes challenging articles that will cause all readers to think about themselves and the value they bring to the world as they conscientiously engage in deep relationships with other individuals and institutions that also bring value to the world.
